to the long Canadian winter, the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race,
is an annual nation-wide celebration of innovations and engineering
spirit. And it is held in the coldest month of the year. Ever since
its beginnings in 1974 this contest has consistently brought together
some of the most talented and enthusiastic members of the engineering
community for four unforgettable days every February.
The rules dictate that toboggans must include a roll bar,
running surfaces composed only of concrete while maintaining a total
weight less than 300 lbs. They are subject to a safety inspection before
they can be raced and awards are presented for Top Speed, Best Run and
Asthetics.
