WinSport Canada provides world-class sport facilities where Canadian athletes can discover develop and excel. WinSport Canada owns and operates Canada Olympic Park, the Bill Warren Training Centre, the Beckie Scott High Performance Training Centre on Haig Glacier, and Camp Green on Farnham Glacier. A nonprofit organization, WinSport Canada supports national sport organizations, encourages educational opportunities and subsidizes the operation of unique training and recreational facilities used by the nation's top athletes and the general public.

There are currently more than 250 volunteers at Canada Olympic Park that participate in a wide variety of areas to promote winter sport and develop Canadian athletes. Volunteers play a significant role in the operation of the Park and have the opportunity to interact with the thousands of local, national and international visitors who visit the facilities throughout the year. If you have a passion for sport and our community, we are looking for you!

WinSport Canada promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, not only for its visitors but for its staff and volunteers as well. Upon completion of 60 hours of volunteer service in the fiscal year (April 1 - March 31) every volunteer will receive:
  • A complimentary season's pass with reciprocal privileges at a number of ski hills and resorts
  • Free or discounted access to all recreational programs offered at Canada Olympic Park
  • Discounts at rental and tech shops, food court and eightyeight Lounge
  • Free access to the Bob Niven Training Centre, an exclusive on-site athletic and weight-training facility (16 years or older)

Volunteers are asked for an initial commitment of one year or one season (summer or winter)

If you’re interested in joining the WinSport Canada team as a volunteer please complete an online application . After an interview, all volunteers will be required to take part in both an orientation and training session prior to joining a specific volunteer program.

Volunteers are recruited on an on-going basis for a wide variety of programs. Some programs are seasonal and have limited availability. Opportunities are available to volunteer as an individual, family, small group, or with friends. 


Assistant Pro - Mountain Bike Volunteer

The Assistant Pro-Mountain Bike volunteer supports the mountain bike instructors with their daily activities. Enjoy the great outdoors while volunteering with kids in our downhill mountain bike programs and summer camps.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assist the mountain bike instructors and camp counselors with group supervision and management
  • Interact with guests, staff, and fellow volunteers in a respectful and supportive manner
  • Maintain a safe environment for all participants by modeling safe behavior
  • Read and abide by all information contained in the training manual
  • Be at scheduled check-in area 15 minutes prior to the program commencing in order to welcome and interact with participants
  • Attend training sessions, orientations and meetings as required

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Be 14 years of age or older
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of 2 weeks of camp.  (Must be able to attend all days of a camp week)
  • Possess advanced mountain biking skills and your own equipment (helmet mandatory)
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team with a high level of energy
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn and take direction
  • Possess  strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated maturity
  • Experience with or enjoy working with children ages 4-12 is an asset
  • Enjoy working with kids
  • Completion of Standard First Aid training is an asset
  • Completion of mountain bike lessons is an asset

Counselor in Trainig (CIT)

Counselors in Training assist our WinSport Camp Counselors with group supervision and a diverse range of recreational activities for children at our summer camp programs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the camp counselors with group supervision and management
  • Interact with guests, staff, and fellow volunteers in a respectful and supportive manner
  • Lead short camp games
  • Maintain a safe environment for all participants by modeling safe behavior
  • Provide additional assistance as required

  • Refrain from instructing participants; volunteers are not permitted to provide instruction

Visitor Information Centre Host

The Visitor Information Centre host is responsible for supporting the guest services department by providing information and assistance to guests accessing the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) at Canada Olympic Park. Volunteers provide information on Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Canada Olympic Park to a variety of visitors. The role includes offering maps, brochures, and making recommendations on sites to see, as well as providing visitors with directions to major attractions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide information to visitors and guests about WinSport Canada, Canada Olympic Park, Calgary, Alberta and Canada
  • Assist guests with inquires relating to accommodations, directions and attractions
  • Research information online and provide information to guests
  • Monitor and stock brochures and related items
  • Document the location from which guests are visiting
  • Ensure the workspace remains tidy
  • Read and maintain a working knowledge of all information contained in the manual
  • Provide additional assistance as required
  • Attend orientations, training and meetings as required

The ideal candidate will:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Friendly disposition
  • In-depth knowledge of the city of Calgary is required
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the Internet
  • Knowledge of the Olympic sports is an asset
  • Knowledge of WinSport Canada, Canada Olympic Park and the services and venues on-site
  • Second language is an asset

Ski Jump Tower Host

The Ski Jump Tower Host is responsible for supporting the Guest Services department by providing information to guests who venture up to the Ski Jump Tower, the highest vantage point in Calgary.  The Ski Jump Tower Host plays an important role in promoting the unique and prestigious history of the tower as an Olympic venue and dynamic training facility.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greet and interact with guests
  • Check tickets and direct guests without tickets
  • Provide information about WinSport Canada, Canada Olympic Park, Calgary and the Tower
  • Provide guests with information on ski jumping and Olympic history at the park
  • Ensure the Tower is tidy and exhibits are protected and displayed correctly
  • Read and maintain a working knowledge of all information contained in the manual
  • Provide additional assistance as required

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years or older
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be comfortable approaching and interacting with visitors
  • Knowledge of audiovisual equipment or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of WinSport Canada, Canada Olympic Park and the services available on-site (training will be provided)
  • Ability to work independently during slow times
  • Second language is an asset

Ski Jump Tower Opens: May 19, 2012 and is open 7 days per week through September 3, 2012

  • Shifts Available: Sunday through Saturday 10:00a.m.-1:30p.m., 1:30p.m.-5:00p.m.

Trail Monitor

Trail Monitor volunteers are responsible for supporting the safety department through the provision of assistance in the mountain bike park. Volunteers will take runs through the mountain bike park looking for and reporting to patrollers/dispatch any safety concerns. They will also act as hosts at the lift lines by assisting with crowd control and answering questions guests have about the Park.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greet and chat with guests while they are waiting to use the lifts
  • Provide instruction on how to use the lifts to guests as they wait in line
  • Answer any questions guests may have about the lifts, the park, and the sport
  • Assume the lead in providing crowd control at the lift lines
  • Contact dispatch to arrange support for guests experiencing difficulty navigating the park
  • Take runs through the mountain bike park looking for and reporting to patrollers/dispatch any safety concerns
  • Interact with trail users to provide guidance and information
  • Refrain from providing instruction or teaching the guests mountain biking skills
  • Refrain from repairing or adjusting guests' equipment
  • Attend training sessions, orientations and meetings as required
  • Additional assistance as required
  • Act as an ambassador for the sport of mountain biking

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team with a high level of energy
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated maturity
  • Possess at least one year riding experience at Canada Olympic Park and be familiar with the trails
  • Be a confident mountain biker
  • Knowledge of lift operations and safety protocols of the hill are considered an asset
  • Completion of Standard First Aid training an asset

Special Events Volunteer - Year-Round Opportunity

The Special Events Volunteer is responsible for supporting a variety of WinSport Canada departments by providing assistance during a variety of corporate and sporting events that occur at Canada Olympic Park. Responsibilities and shift times will vary depending on the event. Once part of the WinSport Event Crew, volunteers will have the opportunity to sign up on a per-event basis.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Greeting guests, directing them to Park activities
  • Assisting with registration and check-in
  • Providing on-hill support for sporting events
  • Assisting with activities at corporate events

The Canadian Ski Patrol System (CSPS) is a national organization comprised of highly-trained volunteer and professional members, who provide safety and rescue services to many ski resorts across Canada throughout the winter operational months. The System provides first aid at many resorts, such as Canada Olympic Park and various community events outside of the ski environment. Hill Patrol - Year-Round Opportunity

Hill Patrol is a partnership program between Canada Olympic Park and the City of Calgary Police Service. The volunteer Hill Patrol covers a wide variety of duties and helps ensure safety on the ski hill, in the mountain bike park and during special events. This Patrol is comprised of off-duty serving or retired members of an Alberta policing agency who enjoy skiing or snowboarding. Volunteers are recruited directly through the policing agencies.
